Cordelia, the Chancellor's adopted daughter, had grown up with three Chancellor's sons and agreed to choose a husband by tossing the ball. However, all three broke their promise and failed to appear. Benedict, the crown prince who had long harbored feelings for her, concealed his identity and caught the ball, promising to marry her. The three young masters refused to believe she would choose someone else and, incited by the maid Isolde, repeatedly harmed Cordelia. In the end, Benedict arrived with an imperial decree, revealed his true identity, and married Cordelia, leaving the three noble sons filled with regret.
