According to the family tradition of the Qu family, there is a small ceremony every year and a large one every ten years to honor the ancestors. As a descendant of the Qu family's third branch, Qu Sanyuan has not been able to perform the ancestral rites for over thirty years due to his family's poverty. Moreover, when he married his love against his parents' arranged marriage, he went against his family's wishes, leading to further disdain from the rest of the Qu family for the third branch.
